Summary: A gender gap exists for attainment of leadership positions in anesthesia. To better understand this disparity, and leadership attainment for women we conducted a qualitative study. Women in diverse anesthesiology leadership positions were interviewed. The data obtained from and interviews was analyzed using Grounded Constructivist Theory for common themes to leadership attainment. Our manuscript: Gender Gap: A Qualitative Study of Women and Leadership Acquisition in Anesthesiology will be published in Anesthesia and Analgesia (A&A) January 2023. It was selected as the A&A feature article of the month, as the cover article.

1. Review economical and leaders gender gaps as they pertain to the sub-specialty field of Anesthesiology.
2. Define Qualitative Research, with and discuss the specific methodology of Grounded Constructivist Theory.
3. Understand what factors contribute to leadership acquisition for women in the field of Anesthesiology.
